K-2 Enrichment

The K-2 students in Mrs. Faulks and Mrs. McKenricks’ Enrichment classes have recently completed their coding and literacy projects. First and second graders studied story patterns and discovered the story elements (character, setting, problem, and solution) that make up a complete story. They then worked with a partner to write an original story using these elements. Next, students made their tales come to life using creative problem solving to build sets, make costumes, and plan scenes with codeable robots (Dash and BeeBots) starring in the lead roles. Some second graders chose to animate their stories instead using the Scratch Jr. coding app developed by MIT. Kindergartners did a study of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and focused on the comprehension skill of sequencing events. They created all of the artistic props used in their video and programmed the Code-a-pillar, another codeable robot, to help retell the story. All the videos from this round of Enrichment are featured on Mrs. McKenrick’s YouTube channel. Check them out here!
